Tips for website design

In this fast-moving world, everyone wants their job to be done lightning fast. It is for this reason that the use of internet is increasing day by day. For companies to reach people, it’s website design plays an important role. The website should be user friendly. The following tips are useful when wanting to achieve this:

To brand your website, it is necessary to include the company logo in all the pages. A catchy line that summarise the company’s service in short can be used under the logo. The statement indicating the copyright should be included in the bottom of all pages. The navigation of  the website should not test the patience of the user. The time taken for loading a page should be kept less than ten seconds. For the long pages, text navigation links can be used. All this will help avoid scrolling throughout the page for searching a particular text. Big websites can include a search box to facilitate the searching in the website.

The search box should be present in the upper right corner. The search box used should search only in the site not the entire Internet. The page title should be very small and also at the same time it should be descriptive. This will make the site optimised for search engine optimisation.

The layout and the presentation of content should attract the users to the website. The most important content should come at the top of the page. High contrast should be maintained between the background and text color. Dark text color with light color background or vice versa can be used.

If it is a technical site the content should be technical, otherwise the usage of technical words should be minimised since users find it difficult to understand. No other words should be underlined other than link.

While linking, be careful to avoid linking to the pages under construction. Instead of plainly saying click here, the links should have a description about the pages that they are going to link to. Before launching the site on the internet, it should be checked in different browsers for its quality. Many graphics optimisation tools are available for free online. These can be used for optimising the graphics. The image files used should be either of “.jpg” or “.gif” format.

Any website designed by considering the above tips will definitely fulfill the expectations of the customers and the users.
